This outside electrical box at the Animal Refuge League in Westbrook began smoking Tuesday around 4:40 p.m., causing a power outage at the shelter. The building did not have electricity on Wednesday morning, but Patsy Murphy, executive director, said Central Maine Power was working to restore power. In the meantime, Favreau Electric in Brunswick donated a generator to keep some of the lights on and an air conditioner running for the animals. Volunteer Tom McMillan spent the night at the shelter because the generator could not be left unattended. It’s the second fire for the organization in less than a year.
