Festival to honor Gorham’s founding families

A reception honoring the founding families of Gorham will be held on Friday, July 26, at 5:30 p.m., under the reception tent at the festival grounds near the Narragansett School, as part of this year’s Gorham Founders Festival.

The reception is part of the two-day founders festival that runs that Friday and Saturday, July 27.

The event is made possible through the coordination of several community organizations, including the Westbrook Gorham Chamber of Commerce, the University of Southern Maine, Home Instead Senior Care, Gorham Sand & Gravel and the Gorham Historical Society which identified not only Gorham’s Founding Families, but also, traced their lineages to current descendants still living in Gorham who are all invited to be honored at this event.

Patti Cobb will make appetizers, along with refreshments from Sebago Brewing Co.

The reception event includes a silent auction as well a live auction to top off the event.

Lions vintage car show

Gorham Lions Club has announced its sixth annual classic car and tractor show is set for 6:30 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sunday, July 28, in the parking lot at Gorham High School, 41 Morrill Ave,

Car registration is $5, and general admission is free and will be held rain or shine. The show is sponsored by otmotorsales.com

Free gazebo concert

Jim Gallant and the Boops will be in concert 6:30-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16, at the gazebo on the lawn at Gorham Municipal Center, 75 South St.

The concert is part of a free summer series sponsored by Gorham Recreation Department. Parking is available along South Street or in the municipal parking lot behind Baxter Memorial Library.

Gospel concert at White Rock

Timothy Mark, songwriter, pianist and tenor soloist, will present a concert at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, at White Rock Baptist Church, 300 Sebago Lake Road, in Gorham.

There will be a voluntary contribution opportunity to defray expenses of the concert.

Mackeil promoted

Brig. Gen. James D. Campbell, adjutant general for the Maine Army National Guard, has announced that Zachary Mackeil of Gorham has been promoted to private first class.

MacKeil serves with the 262nd Engineer Company and his promotion became effective in June.

U.S. taxpayer debt

The Bureau of Public Debt reported on July 3 that the U.S. public debt was $16,738,287,806,544.20.
