To the Editor:
I want to advise those who missed Shakespeare on the Kennebec this past weekend not to make the same mistake when it returns to Bath on the afternoons of July 13 and 14.
Shakespeare’s broad comedy, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” was the ideal production to perform on the beautiful grounds of the Plant Home.
The local cast seemed to enjoy their roles as much as the audience, and the sloping lawn set among rocks and trees with the river as a background was an ideal natural setting.
We brought folding chairs, but blankets seemed to serve many as a good alternative and, though we were asked not to bring food, there was a food tent selling refreshments.
I should add that, though a hat is passed for donations, this is a free community offering.
It was a generous offering, too, and a welcome opportunity to experience Shakespeare being played to the groundlings.
So mark your calendars for the 13th or 14th at two p.m.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
