
Shaw’s blast, his second of the night, gave the Sea Dogs a sweep of the twinbill as Portland won the opener, 4-1. Portland has a five-game winning streak and holds a three-game lead over the Thunder for the second playoff spot in the Eastern Division.
In the opener, Keith Couch (6- 2) pitched the third complete game of his career and Portland scored all of its runs with two outs.
Couch fanned a season-high eight batters, scattered five hits and issued one walk.
Trenton took a 1-0 lead in the first. Ramon Flores singled to start the game and scored on Slade Heathcott’s double.
The Sea Dogs answered in their first turn against losing pitcher Sean Black (1-2). With two outs, Garin Cecchini walked and Tony Thomas followed with a two-run homer over the Maine Monster.
In the second contest, Shaw reached four times (two walks, two home runs) in the Sea Dogs win.
Trailing 5-3 with two outs in the sixth, Ryan Dent cracked a three-run homer over the Maine Monster for a 6-5 Portland lead, but Tyler Austin tied the game with a solo-homer off Noe Ramirez.
The Sea Dogs and Thunder wrap-up the three-game series on tonight. First pitch is set for 7 p.m., with Portland lefty Drake Britton (6-6, 3.79) battling Trenton’s Zach Nuding (2-9, 3.78). Tonight is Civil War Night at Hadlock Field. Tickets are available by calling 879- 9500, or at seadogs.com
