PORTLAND — The 32nd annual YMCA Peaks to Portland swim will be held on July 13.
The race starts at 8:30 a.m. and will take place on Casco Bay, starting at Peaks Island and finishing at East End Beach in Portland.
The course is 2.4 miles long. Although the swim is regarded as one of the top 50 open water swim races in the U.S., the event is intended to encourage participation for people ages 16 and older with a variety of fitness levels and competitive experiences.
Peaks to Portland is also one of the major fundraisers for the YMCA of Southern Maine, with all funds raised going to provide financial assistance to enable the YMCA to offer its programs and services to all, regardless of their ability to pay.
Race participants and officials will take the 6:45 a.m. ferry from Portland to Peaks Island.
Race participants who have qualified for the swim have had to show they can swim one mile in 45 minutes or less.
