BATH — The 2013 District 4 12U and 10U baseball tournaments were held last weekend, with champions crowned on Monday.
10U
Undefeated Brunswick spotted rival Ararat a 4-0 firstinning lead. But, Brunswick rallied from there, scoring an 11-7 victory to advance to the state tournament, which will be held at Berwick beginning July 6.
Brunswick scored three runs in the first. Trailing 5-3 in the fourth, Brunswick put together a five-run frame for an 8-5 lead.
Ararat closed to 8-7 in the fifth, but Brunswick scored the game’s final three runs in the bottom of the inning.
For Brunswick, Patrick Masse doubled three times, scored three runs and picked up three RBIs to lead the offense. Henry Burnham had four RBIs with a single and double, Xander Wing was 3- for-3 and Noah Goddard singled and scored three times.
On the mound, Burnham and Goddard combined on seven strikeouts and three walks in the win.
Ian Brady singled, tripled and scored two runs for Ararat, while Joshua Dionne tripled in a pair of runs. Cody Bonker had a three-run double. Pitching for Ararat were Andrew Vachon and Dionne.
12U
In a back-and-forth contest, Lisbon got the final word for a 7-6 victory over Ararat in the title game.
Ararat, which advanced earlier Monday with a 9-8 eight-inning win over host Bath, will host the 12U state tourney at Bowdoinham, beginning on July 6. Both Ararat (host) and Lisbon will play in the state tournament.
Ararat darted out to a 4-0 lead, the key blow a two-run home run by Cam Grant.
Lisbon, which went undefeated in the tournament, rallied with five runs in the third as Cole Bolduc hit his first of two, two-run home runs.
After Ararat took a 6-5 lead in the fourth, Bolduc went deep again, this time in the home half of the fifth for the winning runs. Bolduc shut the door on Ararat in the sixth, working around a single by Grant, for the mound win. Noah Austin and Bolduc combined on five strikeouts and three walks.
At the plate, Nick Austin singled twice and scored a pair of runs for Lisbon, while Luke Francis picked up a key run-scoring double.
Mike Rogers and Hunter Lohr pitched for Ararat, with eight strikeouts and one walk. Grant was a triple short of the cycle, while Nick Merrill singled and doubled, with doubles coming from Austin Damon, Liam Huston and Ryan Mello.
