YARMOUTH — The State Fire Marshal’s Office says propane is the likely source of the fatal explosion in Yarmouth Tuesday, said Steve McCausland, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman, in a press release this afternoon.
The explosion at 6:17 a.m. at 50 Gables Drive leveled a condominium, killing Peter Corey, 66, found in the rubble and sending three nearby residents to the hospital with minor injuries. It also left more than 10 other condos damaged.
McCausland said investigators have gathered appliances and piping from the building that blew up and will examine them to determine where a leak may have occurred. Fire investigators concluded their work at the site this afternoon.
