THE COASTAL SUMMER CHALLENGE concluded Sunday afternoon at Bowdoin College after a weekend of soccer, sun, and spirited competition from teams from all over New England, New York, and Canada. Close to 200 teams were in attendance, with many local teams from Brunswick, Topsham, Freeport and Bath all in contention. There were finalists and champions from both premier and town/classic brackets, while at the younger ages, 8-to-11, all teams were guaranteed four games and boys and girls received Seacoast United Maine participation awards. “The weather could not have been better, Bowdoin College and surrounding fields in Brunswick and Topsham highlighted the event,” said Coastal Summer Challenge Director Jim Wade. “Restaurants and hotels were at full capacity all weekend ... many folks took in shopping in Freepor t, Bath, Brunswick, while others headed to Popham Beach and Thomas Point Beach, once their games were concluded. All in all, a great weekend for soccer and families that love to watch their kids play!”
