FREEPORT — The Close to the Coast race will be held on Saturday, June 22 at 9 a.m., with all events held rain or shine.
The course is run on roads and forest trails along the ocean in Winslow Park in Freeport. All race proceeds support the Freeport Rotary Club Educational Scholarship Program. For the past 18 years, the Freeport Rotary Club has given more than $90,000 in scholarships raised from this race and an additional $60,000 from other fundraising activities.
The race is part of the Winslow Park Family Fun Day. There will be a 1K Kids Fun Run after the 5K and 10K race. The Kids Fun Run requires no application or fees, and children’s prizes will be provided by Wilbur’s of Maine.
This year, the Rotary is offering a free post-race barbecue to all racers and their children. Buck’s Naked Barbeque, located in Freeport, will be supplying the food, while the Mallet Brothers will provide musical entertainment. All adult non-racers will be asked for a $5 fee to partake of the food, but children are free.
Registration for the race is $20 with a guaranteed T-shirt through June 13. Through race day, registration is still $20 but T-shirts are available only while supplies last. Advance registration is available at www.freeport-rotary.org. Day of the race registration is from 7:15 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.
