PORTLAND — Drake Britton (5-5) tossed his first career complete game, a six-hit shutout, as the Portland Sea Dogs (33-28) beat the Erie SeaWolves (32-29) 2- 0 in game one of an Eastern League doubleheader at Hadlock Field.
Game two was postponed due to rain and will be made up as a part of a twinbill tonight, beginning at 6 p.m.
Britton dazzled over seven frames, scattering six hits, one walk and three strikeouts. In the seventh, Erie put two on with two outs, but the lefty retired Marcus Lemon on a groundout to seal the win.
Erie’s Marcus Saupold (4-3) tossed a complete game in taking his second straight loss to Portland. Saupold yielded five hits and two runs over six innings.
Peter Hissey gave Portland a 1-0 lead in the second inning with a two-out RBI double off the Maine Monster. Tony Thomas cleared the Monster in the sixth for his sixth homer of the season.
Britton held Erie to an 0-for-7 performance with runners-in-scoring position and threw 90 pitches, 65 for strikes. The lefty has allowed one earned run over his last 25 innings.
