POWNAL – Despite an apparent lack of interest, seats on the Pownal Board of Selectman and Regional School Unit 5 board are nonetheless up for grabs as Pownal residents head to the polls for a municipal election June 11.
“Nobody has taken out nomination papers,” said Pownal Administrative Assistant Scott Seaver. ‘Nobody has mounted a write-in campaign, either.”
Pownal Board of Selectman Chairman Tim Giddinge, whose term expires this month, is not running for the office, said Seaver. In fact, Giddinge, who has served two previous three-year terms, has never formally run for the seat – he’s always won by write-in.
Ruth Broene is not seeking re-election to the RSU 5 board.
According to Seaver, the contingency plan if a write-in candidate is selected for the open seats but chooses not to serve is to have the Board of Selectman appoint a resident to the respective positions until the next election. Selectman Alfred Fauvrer’s term expires in June 2014, and Selectman Jonathan Morris is completing the first year of a three-term.
Residents will also be casting votes on the RSU 5 budget and the Freeport High School bond.
