BATH — The Morse High School softball team picked up its third win of the season Tuesday via a 6-4 decision over visiting Nokomis.

The 3-12 Shipbuilders banged out nine hits and committed just two errors. Morse led 5-1 after two innings.

Morse pitcher Jacelyn McNeill went the distance with five strikeouts and four walks, while Nokomis hurlers Libby Donovan and Prew Orcut combined on five walks and seven strikeouts.

For Nokomis Taylor Lovely had two singles and Natasha Howard a solo home run.

In the Morse effort, Lucy Rawson, Neisa Ryder and Morgan Cram had two singles each, McNeill a double and single, and Megan Hixon a single.

“Great way to end the last home game of 2013 for the four seniors on this years team: Nichole Mitchell, Rawson, Hixon and Ryder,” said Morse coach Will Laffely, whose charges visit Camden Hills today, weather permitting. “The second game in a row where our defense did the job. We cut down the errors and made the right play most of the time. I’m extremely proud of this group of young ladies … they never gave up at all this season.”

Payton Johnson singled, doubled and drove in three runs as the Bobcats concluded a perfect regular season with a victory over Class C Sacopee Valley at Hiram.

Kalah Patterson singled twice, and Jamie Plummer chipped in a double.

On the mound, Plummer tossed a one-hitter for Richmond (14-0) with four strikeouts.

Dakota Miner singled for the Hawks (3-11), while pitchers Liz Moulton and Cari Estes combined on five strikeouts, seven walks and six hits.

Richmond will await its Western Maine Class D semifinal opponent, with the game tentatively slated for June 7.

MT. ARARAT 11 MT. BLUE 5

Taylor Pare slugged a threerun double and Devon Hutchins followed with a tworun home run as the visiting Eagles erased a four-run deficit in the third inning for a KVAC win at Farmington.

Pare later added a run-scoring single in a five-run fourth inning to finish with four RBIs.

Mt. Ararat (5-10) hurler Kim Leslie struck out one, walked three and permitted seven hits.

Chelsea Kane singled in two runs in Mt. Blue’s (1-15) four-run first frame, while pitcher Hailey Farrington struck out five, walked four and allowed eight hits in the loss.
