LEWISTON — Catholic Charities Maine announced it has received a grant of $10,000 from Catholic Charities USA for emergency disaster assistance in aiding victims of the Lewiston fires that occurred between April 29 and May 5.
CCM has been working collaboratively with other area nonprofits and the city of Lewiston to secure suitable housing for the displaced residents on a permanent basis. The funds will be used to offset the costs associated with re-establishing permanent residences for the victims.
“We are thankful to have the support of our national organization in this unexpected time of need,” noted Jeffrey Tiner, chief operating officer. “This grant will enable us to further support relocation efforts and help these families make a fresh start after such a traumatic experience.”
Following the fires, CCM staff, along with the Androscoggin Unified Emergency Management Agency, have had an ongoing presence in Lewiston coordinating both in-kind donation pickups and drop-offs and delivering various home goods purchased from monetary donations. The organization remains committed to seeing all of the families find homes who were affected by the fires.
