Beans and spaghetti on menu

The North Pownal United Methodist Church, 851 Lawrence Road, will be holding a public baked bean and spaghetti supper on Saturday, June 1, from 4:30-6 p.m. Tickets are adults $6, children 4-12 years $3, and three years and under, no charge. Keep Me Warm series accomplishes goal

Bradbury Mountain Arts extended its thanks to all those who attended and contributed to the Keep Me Warm concert and art series this past winter. Money raised from the four events went for fuel assistance for 10 Pownal families, administered through Freeport Community Services. In addition, FCS is implementing a new program to help families to weatherize their homes, making them more heating efficient. Funds from the Keep Me Warm concerts will also go toward that project. The musicians, the artists and those who attended all contributed to the success of this worthwhile cause.

Recycling paying off for Pownal

According to the Pownal Solid Waste Reduction and Recycling Committee, Pownal saves an $88 per ton fee on any material recycled through curbside pickup. Ecomaine charges Pownal fees for waste the town sends them in the blue bags but does not charge a fee for recycled goods. Pownal has achieved a 45 percent recycling rate so far this fiscal year (since July 1, 2012), more than any other ecomaine member community.

Returnables sought to support fire-rescue

The Pownal Fire Co. works to support the Pownal Fire & Rescue Department. In addition to providing food during fires and trainings, the organization purchases work uniforms and equipment for the town’s emergency personnel. The money the fire company is able to donate toward these items helps to keep the fire department’s expenses down. The organization seeks donations of returnables to help fund its work. The Pownal Fire Co. is independent from the town of Pownal and the Pownal Fire and Rescue Department.

Hodsdon Road work begins

The Hodsdon Road is now under reconstruction. It will be closed temporarily as needed to perform work. Motorists should plan alternate routes to avoid delays or allow extra time for potential delays. Breakfast, Bible study at First Parish Church

The Men’s Breakfast at the First Parish Congregational Church of Pownal, 422 Hallowell Road, is held the first Saturday of each month at 7:30 a.m. at the church. It is open to any men who want to come. They do not have to be affiliated with the church. The Rev. John Wentworth leads the discussions.

Church Bible Study meets on Tuesdays at 7 p.m.
