BRUNSWICK – Mid Coast Senior Health Center in Brunswick offers a monthly support group with presentations designed to help understand the challenges of caring for someone with dementia, fostering supportive and beneficial conversation among participants.

On Thursday, May 16, from 4:30-5:30 p.m., the Occupational Therapy staff from Bodwell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at Mid Coast Senior Health Center will present and program, “Falls and dementia, how the disease effects balance and perception.” The presentation will focus on how the progression of dementia effects a person’s balance and visual perception in relation to environment, as well as some tips for helping create a safer environment to prevent falls and loss of balance.

After the presentation, the therapists will facilitate the group in a discussion. The group will be co-facilitated by Cindy Hughes, activities cirector for The Garden, an assisted living home for people living with dementia.

The support group is free and open to the public, and meets the third Thursday of every month at Mid Coast Senior Health Center, 58 Baribeau Drive, Brunswick. For more information about the support group and future presentations, call Mid Coast Senior Health Center at (207) 373-4656.
