LISBON — Devin Libby, Life Scout with Boy Scout Troop 109 in Lisbon Falls, mobilized more than 30 volunteers April 13 as part of his Eagle Scout service project to refurbish a baseball field.

With the generous time and service provided by volunteers, they fixed up a baseball field at the Lisbon Falls Church of the Nazarene, clearing brush on the first baseline as well as the outfield; bringing stone dust to the infield; realigning 60- and 90-foot base paths; and adding a fence to the outfield as well as foul poles.

The project also included building two benches and a gear box which Libby built with his great grandfather, William Stevens, and great uncle, Greg Stevens, both of West Paris.

The Rev. Bailey, the sponsor for Libby’s project, had a vision many years ago where he wanted to provide a baseball field to the Lisbon Falls community, so that children would have a positive outlet like that of the American pastime — baseball. Bailey shared that sports helped him stay on the straight and narrow as a youth growing up in Bath.

Libby, the son of Heather and Allen Ward of Lisbon Falls and Scott and Sarah Libby of New Harbor, is an eighth-grader at Sugg Middle School and plays football and baseball and plays trumpet in the school band.
