The crash was reported at approximately 9 a.m. Richmond police Officer Josh Staples said a Suzuki Sidekick driven by Dylan Wallace, 18, of Richmond, crossed the oncoming lane of travel, hit and went over the guardrail and down an embankment, rolling a couple times on the way down. Both air bags deployed, Staples said. Wallace and a passenger, Brian Simpson, 25, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick. Staples said the driver told him he wasn’t wearing a seat belt, and the passenger didn’t remember if he was wearing a seat belt. The vehicle was totaled, Staples said. No charges were issued.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
