BATH
Police are investigating a rash of thefts from motor vehicles that occurred over the weekend.
As of Monday night, police had 15 reports of thefts in the area of North and Lincoln streets, which included a number of side streets.
On Sunday, at 11:35 a.m., off-duty Officer Andrew Booth observed two 15 -year-old males checking vehicles in the Bath Shopping Center. Officer Rick Ross responded immediately and the two males were detained and identified.
Ross charged both juveniles with possession of tobacco products. One of the males, from West Bath, also was charged with refusing to submit to arrest or detention. The other male is from Brunswick.
During this incident, evidence from the earlier thefts was recovered in the immediate area. Charges are forthcoming.
Police have returned some of the property, and some remains unclaimed. Anyone whose vehicle was entered can call 443-5563.
Lastly, Police Chief Michael Field reminds people to not leave valuables in their vehicles, in plain sight, and most importantly, to lock vehicles.
