AUBURN Elizabeth Jean Davis Jones passed away suddenly, at the age of 87, on April 9, 2013 at the Odd Fellows Home in Auburn, Maine.

She was born in Lewiston, Maine on January 17, 1926 to Harold and Mildred Davis of Auburn.

She was an avid musician, who gave her first solo piano recital at the age of eleven. She attended Auburn schools and graduated with honors from Edward Little High School in 1944. She was employed by the telephone company from 1944 to 1962, working both as an operator and a telephone repair clerk. During that time, she traveled extensively with friends, making memories that would last a lifetime.

She was a member of the Lewiston/Auburn Philharmonic Club, for which she played on occasion, a bowling league, the BPW Club, and the Square Dance Club, where she met the love of her life.

She married Paul Kenneth Jones, of Yarmouth, then State Director of Special Education, in 1957. They resided in Auburn, where he taught school. They spent their summers at their beloved cottage, “Bit ‘O He’ven”, on Bailey Island.

In 1962, they adopted a daughter, Margaret-Alice (Meg). In 1964, Betty went to work for Dingley School in Lewiston as a library assistant, something she would do for the rest of her working career. She loved library, especially reading to the younger children. She continued her education, both at the University of Maine and at CMVTI. She worked as a school librarian in both Lewiston and Auburn schools, briefly for Lewiston Public Library, and then retired from Poland Community School in 1985.

During these years, she played the piano and organ for numerous churches and other events. She was the Noble Grand of the Rebecca Lodge and a life long member.

In later years, she cared for her ailing father, her life-long musical partner, until his death. She then retired to her home on Bailey Island but continued to play both the piano and organ for the local Methodist Church. She had a great love for the theater and was all too often seen front row, center at Maine State Music Theater. She loved to read and dearly loved animals. Her greatest joy, though was spending time with her family on Bailey Island.

She is survived by her daughter, Meg and her husband Ron Beauchesne of Sabattus. She is also survived by her grandson and “buddy” Jason Beauchesne, of Sabattus, who adored her; a great grandson, Michael, of Leeds; a granddaughter, Sarah and three great granddaughters, of Auburn.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Kenneth, who passed away in 1974.

Every life she touched was changed for the better. She will be dearly missed by all those who had the privilege to know her.

Her family would life to thank the Odd Fellows Home of Auburn for all their loving care over the past two years.

Funeral services honoring Elizabeth’s life will be held on Saturday at 2:00 PM from the Memorial Chapel of Dillingham & Son. Spring burial committal services will be held on Friday, May 10, 2013 at 1 PM at the Pine Street Cemetery in Auburn. Visitation will be held on Friday April 12, 2013 from 3- 5 and 7-9 PM at the Dillingham & Son Memorial Chapel, 62 Spring Street, Auburn.
