Have you seen the video by Tim Hawkins, a Christian comedian and singer, doing his song, “The Government Can?” He based the song off of The Candy Man Song from Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. It goes something like this: “Who can take your money? With twinkle in their eye? Take it all away and give it to some other guy? The government can! The government can!”
I have no problem stating that anyone who fought in the American Revolutionary War who could warp in a time machine to 2013 would want to leave as soon as possible. They fought to rid themselves of oppressive taxation and the loss of freedom and just imagine this. Many were better off then than living here today, especially with taxation. Maybe a modern-day saying should be, One if by taxes, Two if by fees.
It takes a government to raise a child. I used to think it was originally the main cause to have a family. Then it took a village to raise a child and I’m sorry but many of us missed what was coming next. Now it’s the government’s turn to raise a child. Although I believe preschool is important for some children, I don’t believe it is necessary for all children if the parents do the job raising and teaching their children as they well should. Now the liberals in LaLa Land want to force preschool on all children and expect everyone to pay for it, as always. However one of biggest problems with preschool is by the time children attend grades 3 or 4 they are going backwards instead of forward in their test scores. And it only gets worse after that. Have you ever heard of the idea of Hegelian statism, which is the idea that the state was God on Earth? What’s scary here is that some educators might believe that it is the state’s duty to educate the children into servants of the state. I need to say no more.
It takes a government to do away with competition to public education that would share public funding. I think it’s somewhere around 19 states that have a school voucher system where the education tax dollars follows the student, not the public school. Here in Maine the charter school system is just beginning and the mayor of Portland along with many Democrats in the Maine Legislature are doing their best to kill the charter schools before they have a change to prove how good they could become. God forbid public schools have some solid competition that could prove how bad they are or even more importantly, how good they are. What’s the bad side of the story here is that public schools are showing a strong belief that all those tax dollars are theirs. I believe that those tax dollars should follow the child no matter where that child goes to school. If public schools have fewer students, then they should receive fewer tax dollars but instead the cost of education steadily increases although there has been a decline in students.
It takes a government to do away with parents. I cannot believe that a federal judge has the power to undermine the very principle of being a parent and I believe that because of the recent decision by a judge that a female of any age can have access to the so-called morning-after pill, even without her parents’ permission if she is under the age of 17. I knew that this country has been going to Hell in hand basket but that just nailed the lid to our coffin. Enough said!
Finally, it takes a government to put down its detractors. Just look at Gov. Malloy of Connecticut calling the head of the National Rifle Association Wayne LaPierre a clown. Because he is interfering with our Second Amendment rights, I won’t call him a liberal or socialist because I think the term communist fits better.
Lane Hiltunen, of Windham, would have loved to experience the American Revolution. Feel free to ask him because the answer might surprise you.
