Samantha Russell tops art show

Samantha Russell took first place in the annual high school art show sponsored by Westbrook Woman’s Club of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs/Maine on March 26 in the Fellowship Hall of the Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church.

Maggie Harnois took second and Chelsea Tuttle, third. The winning pieces will now be entered at the GFWC District 1 Art Show in Gorham on Saturday, April 13.

Judges were local artists Mary Brooking, Jeremy Greene and Pat Sundik, retired art teacher from the former Westbrook Junior High School.

Roberta Dutton Morrill, chairwoman of the Education Awards Committee, said that Westbrook Superintendent Marc Gousse gave “some very praiseworthy remarks, and Carol Connor, director of art in the Westbrook schools did, as well.”

As always, the artwork was truly outstanding, Morrill said. “There were 29 entrees, and they indeed posed a challenge for the judges,” Morrill said.
