BRUNSWICK — The Keene State men’s lacrosse team held Bowdoin scoreless for the final 40:14 and rallied to take a 6-5 win on Tuesday evening at Ryan Field.

The Owls improved to 8-3, while the Polar Bears fell to 6- 4.

Bowdoin’s Franklin Reis scored four times to lead all players. Ian Hart, Tyler McKelvie and JT Galloway scored twice apiece to account for Keene State’s scoring.

After Galloway scored the initial goal of the contest, Bowdoin rolled off three straight — all by Reis — to take a 3-1 advantage. McKelvie was able to get one back for the Owls late in the opening stanza to trim the lead to 3-2 after one period.

Bowdoin opened the second quarter with consecutive goals from David Nemirov and Reis to take a 5-2 advantage with 10:14 remaining in the half. Keene got tallies from McKelvie and Hart to make it 5-4 before intermission.

Galloway and Hart scored third-period goals to give Keene a 6-5 advantage with 6:46 remaining in the quarter. Neither team found the back of the net in the fourth quarter despite several good chances by both squads. Bowdoin’s Billy Bergner hit a post with 13 minutes left in the quarter and Keene’s Taylor Wicke rang one off the bar less than two minutes later.

Bowdoin had a late possession with under 90 seconds to play, but a hard shot by Reis sailed wide of the goal. Keene gained possession off the miss and was able to run out the remaining seconds.

Alex Sharp made 14 saves in goal for the Owls while Bowdoin’s Christopher Williamson also stopped 14 shots. Bowdoin held a 37-31 edge in shots, a 30-29 lead in groundballs and committed 16 turnovers to 21 for Keene State. Bowdoin’s Ben Brewster led all players with three caused turnovers and eight groundballs.

Bowdoin will return to action on Saturday afternoon when it hosts Wesleyan at 1 p.m.

Baseball

The Polar Bears got a complete game from freshman Harry Ridge and a timely two-out, two-run single from Luke Regan to take a 2-1 win over St. Joseph’s on Monday afternoon at Pickard Field.

Winners of five of their last six games, the Polar Bears improved to 13-9. The Monks, ranked 21st in the latest NCBWA Division III poll, have lost three straight games and fell to 14-8.

Ridge tossed a complete game on four singles and struck out five batters, allowing one unearned run in the victory. Nick Whittaker took a tough-luck loss for the Monks, permitting two earned runs and six hits over seven innings of work.

Ridge retired nine of the final 11 batters to clinch the win. Bowdoin returns to action on Friday at home against Colby (3 p.m.).
