SOUTH PORTLAND — South Portland police are investigating an alleged armed robbery of a Big Apple convenience store on Cottage Road on Monday night.

A man entered the store at about 10 p.m. and threatened the clerk with a handgun before leaving the store with a small amount of cash, police said. An officer and tracking dog with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office helped to search for the suspect but lost his track a short distance from the store.

Police described the suspect as a black man about 5-feet-8-inches tall with a slim build. He was last seen wearing jeans with some holes in them, a black hoodie, a ski mask and sunglasses. Anyone with information is asked to contact the South Portland Police Department.
