Coach: Hank Ogilby (16th year)
Last year’s record: 10-6
Key returning players: Nick Cartmell, Niko DiFazio, Connor Dietrich, Dan Burke, James Purdy, Cole Harrison, Brian Rhea, Brandon Williams.
Key games: Falmouth, York, Greely, Cape Elizabeth, Yarmouth
Outlook: The Falcons graduated nine seniors last year, including the heart of their batting order. But they return several excellent players, according to Ogilby, and look forward to key contributions by up-and-comers like Brady Davis, Calen Cyr, and Nick Nelsonwood. Ogilby is especially confident in the Falcons’ infield, as well as the depth of their pitching staff. “Defense and pitching can take a baseball team a long way, and I believe we have both of these,” Ogilby says, “…and in Connor Dietrich, one of the best players in the conference. I am excited about the season.”

Key returning players: Leigh Wyman, Hannah Chase, Necole Harrison, Helen Humphrey
Key games: Yarmouth, Falmouth, Poland
Outlook: Six returning starters, addition of senior Necole Harrison as a transfer, lots of veteran leadership. Leigh Wyman will be a fourth-year starter in the circle. Should be in the middle of the pack Western Class B. Offense will be the key. The team will need some key wins versus top teams.

Coach: Jay Harper
Key returning players: Abrin Berkemeyer, Chris West, Landon Easler, Connor McLellen, Ryder Bennell, Caleb About, Callum Gould
Key games: Cape Elizabeth, Falmouth, Waynflete, York
Outlook: For Harper, expectations run high, because his team has four returning seniors. Up-and-comer Nathan Smail, a freshman, will bolster the veteran squad, even playing No. 1 singles, most likely. “But playing in this conference is not easy,” Harper says, “and it is tough to get wins that give you heal points.” He’s confident in the Falcons’ depth in doubles, and hopes to build on last year’s valuable Western B playoff experience.

Last year’s record: 2-10
Key returning players: Katie McClelland (jr.), Sophie Smith (sr.), Kayley Johnson (sr.), Natalie Jortner (jr.)
Key games: Greely, Yarmouth, Lake Region
Outlook: “We have our four top players from last year returning which is awesome, plus we have some talented new players, which makes us even deeper,” Nordenson says. “I like to think that we are a team that could give most teams trouble on any given day.” The Falcons face a tough schedule, but Nordenson is confident that, with hard work, his girls will make the playoff hunt. “We have great leadership from our top girls and I am looking forward to another fun season (hopefully with not too much rain).”

Coaches: Geoff Arris, Jake Martin
Last year’s record: 2-10
Key returning players: Clayton Morrison (sr.), Griff Breer (sr.), Tucker Troast (sr.), Ryan Camp (sr.), Sam Farrar (sr.), Galen Simmons (sr.), Sam Wogan (so.), Jake Perry (so.), Ramsey Dodge (so.)
Key games: Waynflete, Yarmouth, Greely, York
Outlook: Arris is looking forward to building on last season. “I think this year is a completely different team and they are ready to work hard and move forward,” he says. “Our upperclassmen are really putting in the work and teaching our large group of underclassmen.” He sees the Falcons’ offense coming together, and lauds the contributions of new assistant coach Martin, who is running the defense. He looks to up-and-coming freshman goalie Zac Wogan for “big things.” Morrison, Breer, and Farrar will lead the midfield, along with Tyler Frey, Jordan Roy, and newcomer Parker Matheson. Sam Wogan, Simmons, and Dodge lead the Falcons’ attack; Arris calls them “quick to move the ball and drive the cage.” Camp, Perry, and Mikey Williams work the defense.

Key games: Falmouth, York, Sacopee Valley
Outlook: Freeport is a young team, but with a strong core of veteran state qualifiers. “We will continue to be strong in the running events,” Berekemeyer says, “with a few individuals in the field events. We will need the upper-class leadership to inspire the rest of the team. We will still have some of our state standouts, but this will require each person to fine-tune one or two events. Hopefully with the addition of a track at the high school, the team will become competitive in every event. It will be fun to see who develops.”
