BATH — In light of tragic events in Newtown, Mass., Aurora, Colo., and elsewhere, concern continues to mount about the effects of media violence on youth.

Cantor Daniel J. Leeman and Beth Israel Congregation will host a community dialogue, “When Media Violence has Real Life Consequences,” on Sunday, April 7, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the Beth Israel Congregation, 862 Washington St.

There will be seating available for 500 people and the event is free.

Guest speaker at the forum will be Rona Zlokower, MCM, executive director of Media Power Youth, a nonprofit organization that empowers youth to lead healthy safe lives through smart use of media, based in Manchester, N.H. She will provide research and information on media’s role in influencing violence, aggression and desensitization to violence.

Zlokower will lead the audience in a discussion of how we can empower youth to be safe, smart & media savvy through media literacy, and create healthy media environments at home, in schools and in our communities.

The congregation is hopeful that the forum can encourage participants to be activist on the issue of youth violence and the role of media in children’s lives and begin to seek solutions within families, school, religious organizations and their communities.
