To the Editor:
The St. Philip’s Church Help Yourself Shelf Food Pantry, 12 Hodge St., Wiscasset, would like to thank the Midcoast Federal Credit Union and their Edgecomb branch, as well as the Maine Credit Union League, for supporting us with an award of more than $1,300.
Their very generous gift will be put to use supplying food and personal care products. With an increased attendance of 45 percent over the last fiscal year, the shelf is working hard to make sure everyone who comes to us for food aid is not turned away empty handed. This donation will help in that effort.
We would not be able to operate without the compassionate assistance of concerned community members and groups. While a majority of our clients are from Wiscasset, there are also significant attendees from all the surrounding towns.
Good Shepherd Food Bank has extended an opportunity of a matching grant of $300. If anyone is interested in helping to match that sum, please send a check, clearly marking in the memo line that it is for the Help Yourself Shelf matching grant, to St. Philip’s by May 31.
For questions or assistance, call 882-7184.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
