CANTON, Ohio – Jorge Gutierrez and Kyle Weaver each made a pair of free throws down the stretch as the Canton Charge held on for a 103-100 victory against the Maine Red Claws in a D-League game Wednesday night at the Canton Memorial Civic Center.
Weaver made his two for the Charge (26-17) with the score tied at 99 and 21.7 seconds left.
Mark Tyndale had a chance to tie it at 101 after being fouled with 11.9 seconds left. But Tyndale missed the first foul shot and got Maine’s final point on the second to give him 13 for the game.
Tyndale then picked up the foul that led to Gutierrez’s two shots.
Curtis Jerrells (15 points) missed a tying 3-pointer on Maine’s final possession.
Maine (23-22) was behind most of the game and trailed 69-50 with 9:18 left in the third.
The Red Claws closed the quarter with a 28-8 run and headed into the fourth with a 78-77 lead.
Jermaine Taylor led Maine with 34 points. Chris Wright added 14 points.
Arinze Onuaku had 22 points to pace six Canton players in double figures.
The Red Claws travel to Fort Wayne on Thursday for a game against the Mad Ants, and will face the Armor in Springfield on Saturday before meeting the Erie Bayhawks in a home finale March 28.
