Speakout
On Thursday, March 28, Bill Diamond will host Speakout on Windham’s local channel 7 at 7 p.m. and he’ll be talking with a new group about restarting/continuing Summerfest for this year. Viewers are welcome to call in with questions during the show at 892-0546, or come to the Windham Town Office, Council Chambers, and be part of the audience.
Free Tax Prep
Free federal and state of Maine income tax preparation and electronic filing is offered each Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-7 p.m. at Unity Gardens, located at 124 Tandberg Trail in Windham. All tax returns preparation is done by IRS-certified volunteer income tax preparers and is open to taxpayers of all ages. To learn more or to make an appointment, call 894-5110. This program is run by AARP Tax-Aide, a program of the AARP Foundation, offered in conjunction with IRS.
Bluegrass Concert
On Saturday, March 23, “A Night of Bluegrass” will be held at North Windham Union Church. This is the first in a series of monthly community concerts the church will hold with part of the proceeds used to benefit local charities, one of which is the Windham Neighbors Helping Neighbors. Tickets are $10 adults, $8 for seniors and students.
Easter Egg Hunt
The 5th annual Easter egg hunt will be held on Saturday, March 23 at 1 p.m. at the Cornerstone Assembly of God Church, Cottage Road (off Falmouth Road). There will also be a story, craft and snacks. This will be held rain or shine. Call 892-5980 for more information.
Cancer Support
The Windham Cancer Support Group will meet on Monday, March 25, at 6:30 p.m. at the Windham Public Library. This month will be a very informal meeting, spent sharing experiences and simply getting to know one another better. The Windham Cancer Support Group has adopted as its mission to provide support and education for all cancer victims, cancer survivors, and caregivers of anyone dealing with cancer. They promise to provide a relaxed and enjoyable meeting atmosphere for anyone dealing with cancer in any of its forms. For more information, check them out on Facebook.
Book Discussion
“The Pattern in the Carpet: A Personal History with Jigsaws,” by Margaret Drabble, will be the subject of the book discussion at Windham Public Library on March 26 at 6:15 p.m. Call Barbara at the library at 892-1908 for more information.
Military Benefits
On Wednesday, March 27, Veterans Service Officer Phyllis D’Orsay is available at the Windham Veterans Center, as she is on the second and fourth Wednesdays every month, from 9 a.m. until noon. She assists veterans, widows of veterans and dependents with questions about benefits and other information. If you have questions of a military nature, stop in and get some answers. No appointment is needed.
Free Meal
On Saturday, March 30, a free buffet-style meal will be served between 4:30 and 6 p.m. at Christ Chapel, 37 Northern Pines Road, Raymond. Surrounding communities and all ages are welcome to enjoy chicken and rice casserole, chicken soup, salads and desserts.
Alumni Banquet
The Alumni Association will meet on Monday, April 1 at 6 p.m. at the High School guidance office. All Windham alumni are welcome to help plan the annual banquet.
Land Trust Meets
The Windham Land Trust holds its monthly meeting the first Wednesday of every month. The next meeting will be April 3 at the Windham Public Library starting at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.
Bean Supper
On Saturday, April 6, a baked bean supper will be held from 4:30-6 p.m. at White Rock Community Club, Wilson Road, off Route 237. This is an all-you-can-eat supper serving beans, hot dogs, macaroni and cheese, salads, biscuits and homemade desserts. Adults $8, kids $4.
Benefit Supper
A spaghetti supper will be held on Saturday, April 6, from 4-8 p.m. at North Windham Union Church, Roosevelt Trail. This dinner will be held to benefit Sandy Winde, a valued member of the community who has been stricken with a debilitating medical crisis. Tickets are $5 per person.
