CLERMONT, Fla. — The Bowdoin College softball team got back on track with a pair of wins Sunday in Florida.

The Polar Bears defeated William Paterson 11-3 before downing UMass Boston in a 4- 1 game. Bowdoin improved to 6-2 on the season as William Paterson dropped to 1-3 and UMass Boston fell to 2-1.

Julia Geaumont racked up two singles, a double, five RBIs and had the gameclinching hit to end the game in the fifth inning against William Paterson. Toni DaCampo had a pair of singles and scored three runs, while both Gen Barlow and Katie Gately had a single, double and scored a pair of runs.

Tricia Thibodeau earned the win for Bowdoin, allowing just three hits.

Bowdoin and UMass Boston traded runs in the opening inning as Dimitria Spathakis scored off a sacrifice fly by Gately to right field. Bowdoin caught Samantha Hemstock stealing in the bottom of the first, but Sue Killilea was able to score from third.

Victoria Rusch scored the go-ahead run after an errant throw off Adriane Krul’s sacrifice bunt. Rusch scored two of Bowdoin’s four runs, spurred by a pair of two-hit performances by Spathakis and Barlow.

Bowdoin returned to action on Monday, falling to Oswego State, 5-3, and downing Babson, 4-3 in nine innings.

Against Babson, Geaumont improved to 5-0, going the first eight innings on seven hits, one walk and one strikeout. Melissa DellaTorre allowed a walk and struck out one to pick up the save for the Polar Bears (7-3).

DaCampo drove in two runs with a double, while Barlow, Hanna Wurgatt and Cielle Collins had one hit each. Rusch scored two runs.

Ashleigh Phelps picked up two hits for Babson (4-2).

Bowdoin dropped a doubleheader to 14th-ranked Ramapo on Sunday in Florida.

The Polar Bears fell to 6-3 with a 2-1 extra-inning loss in game one and a 7-2 setback in game two.

Oliver Van Zant was outstanding on the mound for Bowdoin in the opener, tossing eight innings and allowing four hits with no earned runs. He struck out nine batters and gave up his lone run in the second when a batter reached on error and came around to score on a two-out single.

Bowdoin evened the score in the fifth when Tim McGarry walked, stole second and third and came home on a groundball.

Ramapo earned the victory in the ninth on another unearned run when a batter reached on an error, advanced to third and came home on a sacrifice fly later in the inning.

McGarry and Sam Canales had two hits each.

Ramapo scored five times in the fifth inning of game two to take a lead.

Dan Findley had two hits and rapped a two-run single in the fifth inning. Erik Jacobsen reached base three times, including two walks. Henry Van Zant took the loss for Bowdoin, going 4.2 frames and allowing six hits and five runs despite striking out six.

Duo honored

Bowdoin women’s basketball players Shannon Brady and Kaitlin Donahoe were honored in awards dished out by the New England Women’s Basketball Association late last week.

Brady was named as the NEWBA Rookie of the Year while Donahoe was recognized as a First Team selection.

The NESCAC’s Rookie of the Year, Brady made an immediate impact in the Polar Bear lineup this season, averaging 7.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and ranked fifth in the NESCAC at 2.0 blocks per contest. Her 47 blocks were the fifth-most in a single season in program history and the most-ever by a firstyear player.

Donahoe led the NESCAC in scoring at 15.4 points per game while averaging 3.2 assists per game. The senior co-captain also grabbed 3.8 rebounds per contest, while swiping 38 steals this season. Donahoe, who improved her points per game average each of her four years, finishes her time at Bowdoin with 1,058 career points to rank 11th in school history. Additionally, her 373 career assists stand third in program history while her 99 3-pointers are eighth.

Bowdoin reached the NESCAC Semifinals this winter, becoming the first eight seed to upset a top seed in tournament history. The Bears finished their season with a record of 14-11.

Gorajek top Player

Senior Carolyn Gorajek has been named the NESCAC Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week.

Gorajek tallied four goals in Bowdoin’s 16-4 win over University of New England last week. She also netted four goals and an assist in the Polar Bears’ 11-4 conference win over visiting Amherst on Saturday.

Gorajek leads the NESCAC with 12 goals this season, and has accumulated 135 career marks. The senior attacker is just 10 goals shy of the school record held by Jill Bermingham Isenhart.

Her 181 career points rank fourth all-time at Bowdoin and just 22 off the program’s mark (203 held by Adrienne Gratry).

The 11th-ranked Polar Bears have started the season on a 3-0 run, including a pair of conference victories over Conn. College and Amherst. Bowdoin’s Tuesday game against Endicott was postponed until April 7 due to weather. The Polar Bears look to continue their streak as they travel to Hamilton for a noon game on Saturday.
