BATH — Mechanics Savings Bank recently donated $500 to the Bath Area Family YMCA Freedom Tour Program.

According to a news release, the program provides educational insight on history and culture for its eighth-grade students. Bob Davis, board treasurer of the Bath Area Family YMCA and business development officer at Mechanics Savings Bank, said, “We are delighted to provide an opportunity for a student to participate in the Y’s ‘Freedom Tour.’”

The program finishes with a seven-day trip to major East Coast cities in Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania, and New York City.

The Y prepares students for the trip months in advance by teaching them how history and culture have been an influence in social behavior, impacting the world today.

“We are proud to participate in a program that will help our young generation gain a better appreciation and understanding of the cultural and ethnic heritage of our great country,” said Davis.
