PROVIDENCE — Peter DelGallo, a Gardiner High freshman, and Connor Sheehan, a senior from Fryeburg Academy, captured championships Saturday at the 49th annual New England high school wrestling championships.
DelGallo won five straight matches, including a 3-2 decision over Joseph Rossetti of Glastonbury, Conn., in the final of the 106-pound class.
Sheehan, who went 4-0 in the double-elimination tournament, scored a 3-1 decision over Troy Gassaway of Mt. Anthony Union of Bennington, Vt., in the 113-pound final.
Jared Jensen, a Brunswick senior, reached the finals of the 170-pound division before losing a 9-1 decision to Elliot Antler of Xavier High School in Middletown, Conn.
DelGallo’s brother, Danny, had his bid for an unbeaten season spoiled in the 138-pound final. Mike Stewart of Dracut, Mass., scored a 4-3 decision over the Gardiner senior.
Cody Hughes of Marshwood went 4-1 and finished third at 152 pounds, and Colin Sevigney of Wells placed fourth in the 126-pound class.
