WESTBROOK – A man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly masturbating in an adult services room of the Walker Memorial Library on Main Street in Westbrook.

Gregory S. Tarling, 45, of 65 Lawrence St., Gray, was charged with indecent conduct, a class E misdemeanor crime.

According to the press release issued by Capt. Tom Roth, Tarling was also given a criminal trespass notice that prevents him from ever returning to the library.

Tarling was discovered in the by children who reported the incident to a library volunteer. The police and the children’s parents were immediately called. Police interviewed the children about the incident in front of their parents.

“The response of the volunteer, library staff and police department was outstanding. Bad things are going to happen, what we can control is how we respond,” said City Administrator Jerre Bryant.
