Do fish bite better following a blizzard?
It would seem so, as local anglers hauled in fine catches from Sagadahoc County waters at he 14th Annual Dickie Lemont “Take A Kid Fishing” Ice Fishing Derby on Feb. 10.
Sierra Wallace caught the largest fish of the Derby, a 6.78-pound bass. Wallace was fishing in the Youth Division.
Other Youth Division results:
— Bass, Hayli Toothaker 5.03 pounds; Paige Faulkingham 4.27.
— Pickerel, Paige Faulkingham 2.80; Wade Nickerson 2.11; Garrett Burden 2.04.
— Trout, Kyle Gunnels 2.59; Alex Wallace 2.59; Kadence Burden 1.91.
— Crappie, Nathen Nickerson 1.24; Wade Nickerson 1.14; Dominic Marco 1.03.
— White perch; Dominic Marco .56; Tanner Gagnon .56; Madison Moody .51.
— Yellow perch; Tanner Peaslee .78; Gavin Merry .68; Kaylee Bodge .68.
Adult anglers did almost as well, with the following catches:
— Bass, Keith Wallace. 5.68; Tim Gagnon 2.15; Tim Gagnon 1.73.
— Pickerel, Mike Crocker. 1.51; Steve Peaslee 1.20; Jayson Garanson 1.18.
— Trout, Eric Wallace 2.14; Mark Koehling Jr. 2.05; Tommy Grinn 1.27.
— Crappie; Ryan Kake 1.77; Mike Orr 1.34.
— White perch, Steve Peaslee .44.
— Yellow perch, Roxanne Footer .63; Greg Wallace .56; Steve Peaslee .49.
The event was widely supported in the Mid-coast community with more than 140 businesses and individuals contributing support. Derby winners took home power ice augers, cash prizes, traps and handmade baskets.
