MOSCOW (AP) — The U.S. ambassador to Russia has called on Russian authorities and press to stop “sensational exploitations” of the death of an adopted boy in the United States.
Last month’s death of 3- year-old Max Shatto fueled a fight over Russian adoptions in the U.S. as senior Russian officials accused the boy’s mother of killing the boy. The medical examiner’s office in West Texas has not officially pronounced the cause of death yet.
The investigation into Shatto’s death and Russian reaction have topped the news on state-controlled media which have been using the case to justify Russia’s move in December to ban all adoptions to the U.S.
