BAR HARBOR — Maine’s Acadia National Park will be getting $800,000 in federal funding to build an intermodal transportation center where visitors can park their cars and take a free shuttle bus to destinations throughout the park.

The funding was announced Monday by U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.

The Acadia project is part of a $12.5 million package of funding to improve access to 29 national parks, forests, and wildlife refuges. The money is from the Federal Transit Administration’s Paul S. Sarbanes Transit in Parks program.
