BRUNSWICK

A Brunswick woman was taken to a hospital and charged with endangerment after police found her home, allegedly intoxicated and unresponsive, with her 3- year-old child.

Deputy Police Chief Marc Hagan said a state Department of Health and Human Services case worker had been unable to make contact with the 38-year-old woman at her Moore Avenue residence. A young child answered the phone and said he could not wake his mother, Hagan said, so the case worker called Brunswick police at 4:52 p.m. Thursday.

When a Brunswick police officer responded, “the young child answered the door for us, and we found the mother intoxicated and unresponsive,” Hagan said.

The officer spoke with the woman, determined she was intoxicated and took her into protective custody.

The woman was transported to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick for evaluation, Hagan said. There, she was issued a summons charging her with endangering the welfare of a child. Police found a relative to take custody of the boy.

The Times Record is not naming the suspect in order to protect the identity of the minor.
