SCARBOROUGH – After squeaking into the final playoff spot by edging out Cheverus, the Gorham Rams season came to a quick and decisive end, 65-46, at the hands of the Scarborough Red Storm in their “play-in” game Tuesday night.

Scarborough (13-6, No. 6 seed) will now play No. 3 Bonny Eagle in the quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Portland Expo. Gorham finishes the year 6-13.

The Scarborough defense caused a lot of problems early for the Rams, creating turnovers and limiting scoring opportunities. The Red Storm led 16-4 after one quarter, then 28-18 at the half. In the third quarter, both Brendan Hall and Sam Terry had a radar lock on the hoop, with Hall adding seven points and Terry making three shots from beyond the 3-point arc, to outscore Gorham 24-17 and extend their lead to 52-35.

Hall led all scorers with 23 points, despite being slowed by four fouls. His eight first-quarter points, on two treys and a field goal, helped propel the Red Storm’s fast start. Terry wasn’t far behind in contribution, making four 3-point shots and contributing 20 points.

Gorham was led by Elliott Speirs with nine points and Ryan Sullivan with eight. Nick Thibeault contributed seven points and Alex Owens made two treys for six points.
