NEW LONDON, Conn. — The Bowdoin College women’s basketball team clinched a bid to the NESCAC Tournament with a 72-59 win over Connecticut College on Sunday evening.

The Polar Bears finished at 13-10, 4-6 NESCAC), while the Camels fell to 9-13 (3-6 NESCAC).

The Polar Bears will not learn their seeding until all league games are completed.

One day after surpassing the 1,000-point mark for her career, Kaitlin Donahoe capped her regular season by pouring in a game-high 20 points and dishing out six assists.

Sara Binkhorst connected on four 3-pointers to finish with 19 points to go with five rebounds.

Shannon Brady had 11 points and six caroms while Selena Lorrey finished with nine points off the bench.

The Camels were led by 12 points off the bench from Kayleen Murray. Tara Gabelman finished with 10 points for Connecticut College.

On Saturday, Donahoe surpassed 1,000 career points, but was unable to lead Bowdoin past Wesleyan in a 70-69 loss.

The senior guard entered the game just three points shy of 1,000 in her Bowdoin career. Donahoe reached the mark with a jump shot at the 15:59 mark in the first half.

She becomes only the 13th player in program history to reach this milestone.

Donahoe scored a game high 18 points, while Sara Binkhorst contributed 13.

Cherkira Lashley came off the bench and supplied her team with 11 points, while Amber Wessells and Dreisen Heath both scored 10 for Wesleyan.

The Polar Bears shot only 35.3 percent from the field compared to 50 percent by the Cardinals’ offense.

Wesleyan also held the advantage in rebounds 33-28 and in 3-point shooting percentage 66.7 percent to Bowdoin’s 31.8 percent.

Women’s ice hockey

Stephanie Ludy celebrated Senior Day at Sidney J. Watson Arena with a pair of goals to lead the Polar Bears to a New England Small College Athletic Conference 3-1 win over Hamilton on Saturday afternoon.

The eighth-ranked Polar Bears improved to 16-4-2 (10-3- 1 NESCAC) with the weekend sweep of the Continentals and reached 16 victories in a season for the first time since the 2006-07 season.

Hamilton dropped to 11-10-1 (5-8-1 NESCAC).

Bowdoin got on the board first thanks to a senior duo. Kenzie Novak picked the pocket of a Hamilton defender in the Continental defensive zone and fed Ludy in front, who wristed a top-shelf goal at 6:10 of the opening frame.

The same duo converted for Bowdoin’s second goal as the Polar Bears took advantage of a 5-on-3 power play. Ludy finished off another feed in front from Novak, with Kayte Holtz also picking up an assist on the tally at 10:23.

Ariana Bourque also scored for the hosts.

Hamilton goaltender Becca Hazlett made 23 saves in the loss, while Lessard made 20 stops for the Polar Bears.

On Friday, Holtz collected her fifth career hat trick to lead the Polar Bears to a 6-1 win over Hamilton.

Bowdoin took advantage of an early power play, as Bourque took control of a rebound in front and lifted a shot over sprawling Hazlett at 5:08 of the opening period.

The Polar Bears doubled their lead with a highlight reel goal from Holtz. Shorthanded, Holtz took the puck from her own blue line and skated the length of the ice, beating three Continental defenders before ripping a shot from the high slot to the top-right corner.

The Polar Bears took command with a pair of goals in a span of 35 seconds in the second period. Colleen Finnerty knocked home a loose puck in front at 11:45 to increase Bowdoin’s lead to three goals. Moments later, the senior duo of Holtz and Kim Tess-Wanat played give-and-go on the right face-off circle, with Holtz one-timing a perfectlyplaced feed inside the left post at 12:20.

Holtz finished off the hat trick at 7:40 of the third frame, slipping a low shot from between the circles inside the right post for her 10th goal of the season and 65th of her career.

Rachel Kennedy had two helpers for the Polar Bears. Hazlett finished with 18 saves in two periods before giving way to Tori Bogen, who stopped three shots over the remainder. Lessard made 14 saves in the victory.

Men’s hockey

On Sunday, Bowdoin skated to a 3-3 tie against Wesleyan.

The third-ranked Polar Bears (17-2-2, 11-2-2 NESCAC) were looking to avenge an overtime loss to the Cardinals (9-8-4, 5-6-4 NESCAC) earlier in the season.

Bowdoin scored first at 8:22 of the opening period. Connor Quinn netted his seventh goal after taking the feed from Ryan Collier and John McGinnis.

Just 1:28 into the second stanza Bowdoin doubled its lead with Ollie Koo’s 12th goal. Koo took the feed from Quinn to net the Polar Bears’ second of the night. After successfully killing five Wesleyan power plays, Bowdoin surrendered its first goal of the game to Keith Buehler with four minutes remaining. The extra man goal was Buehler’s 18th goal of the season. The Cardinals wasted no time before scoring their second goal of the game just 38 seconds later. Ryan White beat the Bowdoin defense to even the score at 2-2.

Wesleyan continued its scoring run with its third straight goal of the evening. The Cardinals 3-2 goal came just 33 seconds into the final period off John Guay’s stick. Bowdoin finally found its offensive rhythm with a quick rebuttal goal from Robert Toczylowski less than two minutes later.

Steve Messina made 27 saves for the Polar Bears, while Wesleyan’s Nolan Daley had 37 stops.

Bowdoin’s NESCAC contest at Trinity on Saturday was postponed due to the snowstorm. No makeup date was announced.

Men’s basketball

Bowdoin closed out its regular season with a come-frombehind win at Connecticut College on Sunday, 60-56.

The victory earns the Polar Bears (14-9, 5-5 NESCAC) the fifth seed in the upcoming NESCAC Tournament and the right to travel to fourth-seeded Tufts for a NESCAC quarterfinal game this upcoming Saturday. More tournament details will be announced later today.

With one game remaining in their league schedule, the Camels fall to 7-15 (0-9 NESCAC).

Maximilian Staiger had his second consecutive outstanding game, posting 18 points, including 8-of-9 from the freethrow stripe, to lead the Polar Bears.

Andrew Madlinger also saw double-figures with 12 points, while Lucas Hausman pitched in nine key points off the bench.

Connecticut College’s Matt Vadas led all players with 20 points.

The Polar Bears rolled off an 11-0 surge, sparked by Nick Lenker’s three-point play that gave the visitors their first lead since the opening moments. A pair of Bryan Hurley free throws gave Bowdoin a 49-45 lead with 5:56 to go.

On Saturday, Staiger scored a career-high 23 points to lead Bowdoin to a 75-68 victory Saturday night over Wesleyan at Middetown, Conn.

Staiger was nine-of-11 from the field, made all four of his free throws and pulled down three rebounds.

All five Bowdoin starters saw double figures as Matt Mathias, Andrew Madlinger and Keegan Pieri all scored 12 points apiece. Pieri led the Polar Bears with nine rebounds and four blocks, while Bryan Hurley scored 10 points and dished out eight assists.

Shasha Brown led the Cardinals with 22 points and four rebounds.

Derick Beresford contributed 19, going eight-for-16 and three-of-eight from 3- point range.
