SOUTH PORTLAND – Less than a week after Scarborough’s principal resigned amid unusual circumstances, replaced immediately by an interim, four-person “leadership team,” word comes that South Portland also has lost its High School principal.
The agenda for Monday’s meeting of the South Portland Board of Education lists James Holland among four staff resignations. The others are Skillin Elementary nurse Risa Garland, Small Elementary Grade 3 teacher Anne Tewhey and Donna Foss, an occupational therapist at the high school and Kaler Elementary.
Holland was hired to lead South Portland High School in August, 2011. At the time, he had logged just one year as a high school principal, in Livermore Falls. Prior to that he was a science teacher at Cony High School in Augusta from 1986 to 2004, then assistant principal there from 2005 to 2010.
Holland replaced Jeanne Crocker, who spent 13 years at the helm of South Portland High School. She resigned in May 2011 to become assistant executive director at the Maine Principal’s Association.
Neither Holland nor Superintendent Suzanne Godin could be reached Thursday evening for comment on the reason for his departure, or an effective date.
