SOUTH PORTLAND – With the coming storm now categorized as a blizzard by the National Weather Service in Gray – with predicted snowfall up to 24 inches and wind gusts of 45-50 m.p.h. – South Portland Public Works has announced an “extended parking ban” in the city, from 12 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

According to the department, Pine Tree Waste does plan to run its Friday trash collection routes in South Portland. However, the city is asking residents to pitch and help plow crews by taking trash barrels and recycling bins off the curbside “as soon as possible” after they are emptied. That, Public Works says, “would be a big help to our plow crews.”

Town Clerk Susan Mooney says City Hall will be open Friday.

Among the cancellations, South Portland’s Parks and Recreation Department says its Father-Daughter Dance, Scheduled for Saturday, has been rescheduled for next Saturday, Feb. 16. It will now take registrations for the event until Friday, Feb. 15.
