Keep Me Warm ?arts series continues

Bradbury Mountain Arts presents the third event in the Keep Me Warm Concert and Art Series, Saturday, Feb. 9, Mallett Hall, 429 Hallowell Road, Pownal. The gallery opens at 6:30 p.m. and the concert starts at 7:30. There will be a $10 admission at the door.

The gallery will feature paintings and etchings by Andrea van Voorst van Beest and photographs by Jan Pieter van Voorst van Beest.

The first half of the concert will feature physical comedy duo, Reifer and Saccone. Their sketches weave together movement, mime and monologue to create comic and often poignant observations of life. Karen Montanaro will join them in their performance.

John Saccone and Jackie Riefer met in 1980 while touring with Tony Montanaro’s Celebration Theater Ensemble. They have been offering performances and workshops ever since.

The second half of the concert will feature the female trio known as The Chick Peas, Linda Pervier, Jody Albright and Darienne Oaks. They sing American songbook standards such as “Night and Day,” as well as tunes from the 1930s through ‘60s. All three have an extensive musical background. Pervier grew up in Pownal and Brunswick and has performed rootsy pop music with Maine bands.

There will be refreshments and a door prize. All proceeds go toward the Keep Me Warm Fuel Assistance Fund. One more concert in this series is scheduled for March 9. For more information, contact Kathy Hogue, 688-4153, or khogue@maine.rr.com.

Raffle winner

During the election in November, the Pownal Fire and Rescue Co. held a raffle. The prize was a ride to or home from school for a child in RSU 5, Pownal, Durham or Freeport. Sarah Hyde held the winning ticket. She donated the ride to Noah Larrabee of Durham. Firefighters Dan Brown and Brad Mallett picked up Noah and took him to school in Pownal’s Engine One.

Trek to focus ?on new trails

Learn more about new trails connecting Gray and North Yarmouth to Pownal, the next phase of the Bradbury to Pineland Corridor, during a trek Friday, Feb. 15, from 2-4 p.m., as part of the Great Maine Outdoor Weekend. Meet at the Pineland Public Reserve Lands trailhead parking lot on Depot Road in Gray, just west of the intersection of 231 and Depot (North Yarmouth/New Gloucester) Road. Bring snowshoes or skis or boots with traction, depending on conditions, and plan for a 2-mile, two-hour trek. Learn more about planned trails from Royal River Conservation Trust Stewardship Director Kyle Warren, Pownal trail volunteer Rosita Moore, and Maine Parks and Public Lands and state wildlife biologist Joe Wiley. The trek will be on existing loop trails on the Pineland Public Reserve Lands in Gray on the banks of the Royal River, but participants will learn about planned new mountain bike, equestrian, hiking, and skiing trails in fall 2013 or 2014 that will connect existing trails in Gray, through North Yarmouth, to existing trails in Pownal. Wiley will discuss how trail planning will protect existing deer habitat and hunting options on the parcels. The others will share expertise on winter wildlife tracks, winter birds and the ecology of the Maine forest. The event is free, with no advance registration required. For more information, call Kyle at 632-6112.
