BOWDOINHAM
Weather permitting, Saturday’s Ice and Smelt Festival will feature a smelt fishing contest with three different categories.
The festival is 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday. Interested fishermen can register for the contest at the Town Landing Restaurant by noon Saturday to be included and to use the late-morning tide.
There is a $5 entry fee. Full directions will be given as people register.
The three contest categories are: most smelt, determined by the number of fish; biggest smelt, determined by weight; and smallest smelt, also determined by weight. There will be first and second prizes awarded in each category.
The festival is a major fundraiser for the Merrymeeting Arts Center, which just celebrated its fifth anniversary.
In its five years, the center has offered 24 art exhibits as well as special events, art classes, summer drop-in art, talks, films and full days of art at the annual Celebrate Bowdoinham festivities.
Recent weather conditions could affect the event. For information call 841-5914.
