Friday, Feb. 1: All Windham children who will be 5 years old by Oct. 15 are eligible to begin school this September. Kindergarten student screening will take place on April 11 and April 12. Starting Friday, Feb. 1, online kindergarten registration will be available by visiting www.RSU14.org and clicking on “Schools” and then “Windham Primary School,”or call 892-1840, option 5, between 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. starting Feb. 1.

Saturday, Feb. 2: The Standish Sno-Seekers host the annual Winterfest starting at 9 a.m. at Johnson Field on Route 35 in Standish. The event features the popular Poker Rally in which snowmobilers travel 30 to 40 miles of groomed trail in Standish in search of four stations where participants pick up playing cards. $5 per hand. There is no limit on the amount of cards a team can purchase. Registration is at 9 a.m. Also, the snack shack will be open at Johnson Field for hot drinks and food. Feb. 2: The public is invited to a Pancake Breakfast sponsored by The Raymond Lions Club in conjunction with the Cub Scout Pack 800 Pinewood Derby. The breakfast will be held at the Jordan Small Middle School in Raymond from 8 a.m. until everyone is full. Cost is $3 per person, $10 per family. All proceeds will go to Pack 800.

Tuesday, Feb. 5: The Schoolhouse Arts Center’s annual meeting will be held to report on the Schoolhouse activities of 2012, discuss goals for 2013, and elect a Board of Directors for the year ahead. Anyone interested in participating in the Board of Directors for 2013 should contact the Schoolhouse by Feb. 1 at schoolhousearts@fairpoint.net. The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. in the Watchic Lake Room at Standish Town Hall, 175 Northeast Road, Standish. For more information please contact SAC at 642-3743.

Feb. 5: Windham’s monthly grief support group, sponsored by VNA Home Health & Hospice, will be discussing “Coping with the winter of your grief one day at a time” 6–7:30 p.m. at North Windham Union Church, 723 Roosevelt Trail, Route 302, Windham. This is an open group for anyone grieving the death of a loved one. Wednesday, Feb. 6: The 6th Annual Cribbage Tournament is being held at Windham-Gorham Rod & Gun Club, 8 Tow Path Road, Gorham. The event is sponsored by Shaw’s supermarkets and benefits the Maine Children’s Cancer Program. Entry is $13 to play seven games. Trophies for first, second and third places with gift certificate. Feb. 6: Monica Wood, bestselling Maine author, will speak of her writing and autograph books for purchase at the Raymond Village Library. Monica’s gripping memoir, “When We Were the Kennedys,” was a NEIBA bestseller and an Oprah’s 2012 Summer Reading pick as well as receiving other awards. Pre-register by signing up at the Raymond Village Library or calling the library at 655-4283, as space is limited.
