Day for Children

Take your Child to the Library Day is Saturday, Feb. 2, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Windham Public Library. Bring the whole family and read a picture book from the year each person in your family was born. The library’s meeting room will have a picture book from each year, 1938 through 2012, on display. Enjoy a reading snack. See the new comfortable story-time cushions and meet some friends to share a book. This special event is sponsored by The Children’s Room, Windham Public Library. Chili Challenge

The third annual Great Chili Challenge will be held on Saturday, Feb. 2, at the North Windham Union Church, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The donation is $7 for adults, $4 for children. Desserts will also be available. Come in and sample prize-winning chili and more. Proceeds to benefit Windham Community Garden.

Alumni meet

Windham High School Alumni Association committee will meet on Monday, Feb. 4, at 6:30 p.m. in the Guidance Office conference room at the High School. Alumni members are welcome to attend to help plan the 102nd WAA banquet, scheduled for Saturday, May 18, at 4 p.m.

Land Trust meets

The Windham Land Trust will hold their monthly meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m. at Windham Public Library. The public is invited to attend. The Land Trust meets on the first Wednesday each month and all are welcome.

TOPS Open House

TOPS ME 43, Westbrook invites everyone to an Open House on Wednesday, Feb. 6, from 7:30-9 a.m. at Liza Harmon Drive, Westbrook (Westbrook Housing Authority), next to McDonalds on Brighton Avenue. American Legion Meets

The American Post 148 meeting will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 6, at the Windham Veterans Center. Social hour is at 5 p.m. followed by a business meeting at 6 p.m. Topics will be spring programs and Memorial Day preparations.

Thrift Shop

The Thrift Shop at the North Windham UCC is open from 1-3 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday or 10 until noon Saturdays. The Thrift Shop is in the lower level of the church.

Veteran Services

On Wednesday, Feb. 6, combat veteran and Clinical Psychologist Dr. Clifford Trott from Portland Vet Center will offer mental health services to area veterans at Windham Veterans Center. These sessions are one-on-one and strictly confidential. Drop-ins are welcome but appointments are recommended. Call 780-3584. He is usually available on the first and third Wednesdays. To get to the Windham Veterans Center, enter Veterans Memorial Drive off Route 302 between Evergreen Credit Union and Friendly’s and follow to the end.

Food and clothing

Windham Clothes Closet is a wonderful place to find, coats, snowsuits, jackets and winter clothing for all ages. This is a free resource and is open from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, including residents of neighboring towns, by calling 892-1931. The Food Pantry is open to Windham residents by appointment, Monday through Thursday. Senior citizens can come in on the first Monday morning. If you have any questions, call Madeline at 892-1931 Monday through Thursday. The Clothes Closet is at the same location as the Food Pantry, on Route 202, across from Friends Church and adjacent to the Public Safety Building.
