Derby Postponed
The 2013 Crystal Lake Ice Fishing Derby was postponed because of thin and poor quality ice. The new date is Feb. 23 from 5 a.m.-2 p.m. at Crystal Lake on Gray. Some of the events include an All-Ages Derby, Kids Derby, helicopter rides, the Patriotic Ice Shack Competition, free ice-fishing instruction, dog sled rides, great food, a military fly-over, a Military Color Guard Team, U.S. Army vehicles, USO VIPs and the Patriot Polar Plunge at the conclusion of the day. They have thousands of dollars worth of derby and door prizes to give away as well as a chance to win a 2013 Ford Raptor.

Cabin Fever Reliever
On Saturday, Feb. 9, there will be a Cabin Fever Reliever at Fiddlehead Art and Science Center, 25 Shaker Road in Gray. This is their annual fundraiser and you can buy your ticket now, at the center or online to join them in a fun party.

A Warm Hearty Meal
The American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 86 Gray, will hold its monthly Bean Supper at 15 Lewiston Road on Saturday, Feb. 2, from 5-6 p.m. On the menu are pea and kidney beans, chop suey, cole slaw, hot dogs, breads and dessert.
The meal costs $8, $15 for couples over 12 years of age; $2.50 for 5- to 12-year-olds; children under 5 are free. Proceeds benefit veterans and their families and children in the area. Any questions, call Nancy True at 657-2661 (cell 653-3886) or the Legion at 657-4884.
Gray Rec Events
Gray Recreation is bringing The Tardy Brothers to you for one night only. These two brothers are here to show everyone what high-energy juggling is all about. This event will be held at the G-NG High School Cafetorium, on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 5:30 p.m.
At February Vacation Camp, the Newbegin gymnasium will be used for fun activities, contests and games each day for children grades K-6. Drop-off is on or after 7 a.m. and pick up is until 5:30 p.m.
You’ll be going outside for winter fun (so pack your snow gear). Board games, crafts, ping-pong tournaments, foosball and air hockey are all available in the Recreation room as well as music, dancing, movies and more.
Trips that are in the works: Tuesday-Happy Wheels in Westbrook, Wednesday-The Bounce Zone in Saco, Thursday-Outdoor sledding and treats at GNG Middle School, Friday-Swimming at St. Joseph’s in Standish. Please note: A minimum of 10 participants are needed to go on a field trip. You may register for all four days or by individual days (pick and choose what works for you)
Junior Indoor Soccer League, for kids ages 4 through 9, starts March 2. Learn the basics of how to play the game and have fun playing. Dean Bennett, Seth Farrington and members of the Patriot Soccer Club will be running this program. Limited space is available due to gym constraints and liability issues, so you must sign up soon. Rosters will be available Monday, Feb. 25. Fee includes team jersey and end-of-program fun day.

Play Ball
Gray Little League (T-ball, softball, and baseball) registration for the 2013 season is now open. Families can sign up players right now at www.GrayLittleLeague.com.
New players must send in a copy of their birth certificate and proof of Gray residency via mail if registering online.
Fees are as follows: T-Ball is $45 for the 2013 season, Minor and Major softball and baseball is $75. Junior Baseball Softball is $100. No family will be asked to pay more than $150 total. Financial hardship scholarships are also available. Send information requests to loriholmquist@rocketmail.com. The deadline for sign-up is March 2. After that, all registrations will incur a $15 late fee.

Fight the Winter Blues
A newly formed knitting group will meet at the Gray Public Library, Hancock Sreet in Gray, on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. This is not a learn-to-knit class. Please come and share your knitting project with other crafters.
The library is now subscribing to: Home Education Magazine, Golf Digest, Outdoor Life, Field and Stream, Food Inc.
Are you looking for tax forms? Unfortunately at this time the Gray Library only has the federal form 1040EZ and no booklets. Tax forms are late being sent to libraries this year due to ramifications from the so-called Fiscal Cliff.
State tax forms will not be available in the library again this year. You can download state tax forms from www.maine.gov/revenue/forms or call 624-7894 and leave your name and address or write to Maine Revenue Services, PO Box 9107, Augusta 04332-9107, and forms will be mailed to you.

Did you know you can download free books from the library to your Kindle or Nook. They are now offering e-Reader help on Friday afternoons to anyone who needs it. No appointment or signup is necessary. Just stop by the library between 2-3 p.m. on Friday with your charged device.
Basic Computer and Basic Internet classes are being offered at the Gray Public Library on a rotating schedule. Please check at the Circulation Desk to find out when the next session starts. Space will be limited to four students at a time, so you will need to sign up. They hope to eventually offer courses on basic e-mail and social networking.
