The Maine Department of Marine Resources will hold a public listening session with shrimp trappers from 10 a.m. to noon on Feb. 1, at the Lincoln County Communications Center to discuss additional control measures for the 2013 season.
With only 150,000 pounds allocated to the trap fishery, department officials said in a news release they have determined additional measures beyond those already established are needed to avoid overrunning the quota while allowing a profitable fishery.
The meeting will provide shrimp trappers the opportunity to review and provide input into the measures that will be implemented by the DMR prior to the Feb. 5 trap season start date.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
