Residents, business owners and property owners are invited to discuss transportation issues at a Route 196 Committee workshop Wednesday.
The workshop is part of the committee’s efforts to develop a master plan for the Route 196 corridor. It begins at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Topsham Public Library, 25 Foreside Road.
The town and Route 196 Committee are working with consultant Wright-Pierce to develop a master plan for the Route 196 corridor between Interstate 295 and the Lisbon town line.
As part of the plan, the committee wants input on how to guide future growth, considering issues of visual character, economic development, traffic and infrastructure.
After an initial public workshop last December, the committee is now holding a series of work sessions to address specific project topics. A workshop on land use was held earlier this month. Wednesday’s session will target the issue of transportation. A third workshop — date to be determined — will address “transition areas” or buffers between residential and nonresidential land uses.
Wednesday’s workshop will include a presentation and discussion on current traffic and pedestrian and bicycle issues, projections and studies for long-term road corridor needs, and possible strategies to address transportation issues and concerns.
Traffic engineers will be on hand to facilitate the discussion.
