Piano needed

An area resident is seeking the donation of a small spinet piano to play for a family member and other residents at a local Alzheimer’s assisted living facility. Call 865-9507.

Nomination papers available

Nomination papers for the April 2013 ballot are now available at the Town Clerk’s office during business hours.

Candidates will need to sign out the nominations papers from the Town Clerk. At least 25 signatures from registered voters of Durham but no more than 100 signatures will be needed. Nomination papers need to be back to the Town Clerk on or before Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 4:30 p.m., to have the name appear on the ballot for the April municipal election.

The open positions are: two seats on the Board of Selectmen, each a three-year term; three positions on the Budget Committee, each a three-year term; and one position on the Regional School Unit 5 board of directors, also a three-year term.

Dog licenses now due

All dog licenses expired on Dec. 31 and are now due. Starting Feb. 1, there will be a late fee of $25 per dog applied to the regular fee. The price for a spayed or neutered dog is $6 and for an unaltered dog is $11. You may license your dog by coming in to the Town Office during business hours or mail your information to: Shannon Plourde, Durham Town Clerk, C/O town of Durham, 630 Hallowell Road, Durham, Maine 04222.

Include the dog’s rabies certificate, a self-addressed stamped envelope with a check (make checks payable to the town of Durham). In return Plourde will mail you the new tag and return all the paperwork. Those with questions can call Plourde at 353-2561, ext. 11.

PTA looking for auction donations

The Durham PTA (Parent Teacher Association) is having its fourth annual auction on April 27. The PTA uses these dollars to provide field trips and enrichment programs and many teacher requested educational tools for our students.

Kindergarten pre-registration open

The form to pre-register Durham students for kindergarten for the 2013-14 school year is now on Durham Community School’s website at dcs.rsu5.org. Residents who have a child who will attend kindergarten next year should fill out the form now so the school can plan for its upcoming budget.

Children must be 5 years of age on or before Oct. 15, 2013, to qualify and live in Durham. Registration will take place in the spring with screening in early May. By pre-registering now, residents will be on the school’s list to receive the registration packet and information when it becomes available in the spring.

Food pantry hours

The Lisbon Area Christian Outreach’s food pantry and clothing bank hours are: Wednesday: 6 p.m.-8 p.m., Thursday: 10 a.m. to noon and Saturday: 8 a.m.-10 a.m. LACO serves the communities of Bowdoin, Durham and Lisbon. The website is www.lacopantry.org.

The physical address for food and clothing is the Marion T. Morse Community Center, enter from the Berry Avenue side behind the Lisbon United Methodist Church.
