BATH
Regional School Unit 1 has set March 19 as the date for a referendum vote on the proposed new cost-sharing formula.
The RSU 1 Board of Directors chose the date during Monday night’s meeting. The vote will be held in the five towns that comprise RSU 1 — Arrowsic, Bath, Phippsburg, West Bath and Woolwich.
If passed by a majority of the votes, the new plan will go into effect for the 2013-14 school year.
In addition, three public meetings on the new formula, based on cost per pupil, have been scheduled. The first, a workshop, is 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27 at Woolwich Central School. The second, a public hearing, is set for Bath Middle School, 6 to 7 p.m. March 5. Another workshop is slated for 6 to 7 p.m. March 12 at West Bath School.
The district budget referendum vote is scheduled for June 4.
The district’s shifting cost-sharing formula has pitted member towns against each other in court. West Bath filed suit last month seeking $1.9 million in costs it says it is owed under a prior formula.
