Lisbon police say a tip from a concerned citizen helped them uncover a “multijurisdictional theft ring” of more than $16,000 in outdoor equipment.

The thefts occurred in 2012 and 2013 in Lisbon, Brunswick, Topsham and Bowdoin and included a $6,000 dump trailer and a $2,000 log splitter taken in separate thefts from Lisbon Falls, according to a news release from the Lisbon Police Department.

Both items were recovered and returned to their owners.

The investigation led to the recovery of chain saws that had been stolen in Bowdoin, and an $800 generator that was stolen from Swift Recycling in Lisbon Falls.

A boat motor and winch, as well as a $1,200 landscape trailer and second dump trailer valued at $5,000, were also recovered. The dump trailer had been stolen in Brunswick. The probe led Lisbon police Detective William Tapley and Officer Ryan McGee to Bowdoinham, where they discovered and seized a pound and a half of marijuana they said belonged to Ian Halsey, 32, of Bowdoinham.

Halsey is charged with drug possession, three counts of receiving stolen property and an outstanding warrant charging cultivation of marijuana.

The value of recovered items will likely exceed $16,000. Lisbon police said they and other law enforcement agencies are actively investigating the cases, “and it is anticipated other suspects will be charged.”
